Bath Series

Oil paintings exploring the meditative, primordial relationship between the human body and water. Inspired by the landscapes of Edward Weston, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Salvador Dalí. Through abstraction by enlargement, the body appears as dynamic landscape, entwined with the flash reflection and flow of water when the photo is taken, capturing an elusive moment in this profound relationship. Photo-surrealism renders a snapshot of chaos, serenity, and becoming. In these works, the bath becomes a sanctuary where the body connects to the transcendent allure and safety of water.

“Doreen is dissolving,

Lenny Shepherd is dissolving,

Frankie is dissolving,

New York is dissolving,

they are all dissolving away and none of them matter anymore.

I don't know them. I have never known them and I am very pure.”

Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar
